  1. U got the cast system wrong, it wasn’t a hierarchy to begin with … it became one after or around the time of Shah Jahan give or take …. Primarily because the resources began to shift from Hindu and Buddhist rulers to Muslim ones … thus emerged a Hindu society where people who were closer to power would gain a higher status

  2. India/south Asia

    Muslims rule the north

Buddhism is popular amongst Hindu kingdoms

Two brothers that convert to Islam converted back into Hinduism after going to the south and created Vijayanagar empire

    Religion Hinduism

Through reincarnation the soul needs to escape it and become one with brahma, and depends on karma.

    Brakti movement

Hindu believers that specified on devotion

    Direct relationship with gods

    Caste system

    Hierarchy of 5 groups

Your placement was set based on your karma on a previous life

It was very rigid thanks to this belief that you put yourself in that caste

    South east Asia

    Filled with Hindus and Buddhist

Sea based trade routes and kingdoms emerged thank to its placement

    Mujaahid kingdom

    Island of java

Sustained its power and wealth by controlling sea routes

    Buddhist

    Khmer empire

    Land-based

Complex irrigation and sewer system led to great agriculture and population

Started Hindus but converted to Buddhism

Muslims also lived here thanks to the trade

  3. I am so grateful to this channel, my Ap world teacher doesn't teach correctly at my school, she doesn't get to all the main points. I am glad to have found this channel so I can prep for my exam

  4. Summary:
    India
-They had been Hindu for thousands of years and Hinduism had structured all of its society
-Hinduism believed that the ultimate goal of life was to accumulate enough good karma to be freed from the cycle of life, death, and reincarnation
-Influenced many states around them, especially Islam, which borrowed and refined many Indian ideas
    South East Asia
-The population consisted of a large amount of Hindus and Buddhists, as well as a small population of Muslims
-It was geographically in the perfect place for sea-based trade routes
-This led to many kingdoms developing and flourishing, such as the Majapahit Kingdom (sea-based) and the Khmer Empire (land-based)

  5. my notes:

    India (South Asia)

Muslims ruled north, Buddhism major player, Hindu kingdoms had most significant influence

Muslims establish Delhi Sultanate in North India, didn’t have a lot of progress converting ppl to Islam

Sent 2 brothers to South India to see how good of a chance they would have to expand the kingdom

These 2 brothers were some of the Hindus who converted to Islam for power

Surrounded by Hindu faith, and converted back

Set up Vijayanagara Empire (1336) (new Hindu kingdom)

Hinduism dominate religion, small Buddhist minority

    Summary of Hindu faith:

    Samsara (rebirth)

Atman (soul, divine principle in every person)

Moksha (kinda like heaven, ultimate goal to escape from rebirth)

Brahman (divine being that upholds all of reality)

Point of Moksha is for Atman to dissolve back to Brahman (all of this depends on karma)

Karma: sum of ppl’s life and actions

    Bhakti Movement (1100)

Hindus that emphasized on emotional side of devotion

Focus on devotion to one god (similar to Muslim Sufis)

    Caste system

Hietachical structure thst divided ppl into 5 groups

Only way to move up bc of karma

    Culture

Influenced ppl, and were influenced by others

Indians shared knowledge w/ ppl in Middle East

Arabs built on astronomy from Indians and translated Indian work on Algebra and Geometry and spread it around Dar al-Islam

Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Loas, and Vietnam)

Religion: Filled w/ Hindus and Buddhists

    From merchants

Region good to rule over sea-based trade routes

    Majapahit Empire (sea-based power, 1293)

    Based on island of Java

Largely sustained its power and wealth by controlling sea routes

    Buddhists

    Khmer Empire (802-1431

Flourished bc of complex irrigation and drainage systems, going to and from Mekong River

    Led to agricultural progress

    Hindus but converted to Buddhism

Islam (not as big as others)

Bc significant trade route, and Muslims were traders

  6. — hindu kingdoms had the most influence
    — the bhakti movement in 12th century were hindu believers that emphasized emotional side of devotion to one hindu god. they were similar to the suffis
    — se asia (indonesia, thailand, laos, cambodia) were primarily hindu and bhuddists because of merchants
    — ruled sea based sea routes
    — majapahit empire were bhuddist (1293) and sustained power by controlling sea routes (sea based power)
    — khmer empire (802-1431) were land based and flourished because of irrigation systems to mekong river. led to huge agricultural process. hindus but later bhuddists
    — muslims were significant traders, so islam lived there, but not as primarily as bhuddism and hinduism

I’m actually glad they call it “South Asia”, since (at least to me) calling it “India” May be confusing due to the entire area encompassing what are now Bangladesh 🇧🇩, Pakistán 🇵🇰, and Sri Lanka 🇱🇰, as well, in addition to India 🇮🇳
