Hamstring stretch VS Nerve stretch

  1. Pulling your toes towards your shins will put more strain on the nerves on the back of your legs – nerves don't like to be stretched. This is why it feels more painful. If you point your toes or keep them at least neutral, you'll be targeting the actual hamstring muscles. You can stretch your hamstrings laying down, kneeling or standing. Same principle applies. There's a time and place to pull your toes towards your shins – but not necessarily when you're trying to stretch your hamstrings.
