Furiosa: A Non-Mad Max Saga

Furiosa is a really decent post-apocalyptic action movie, with Anya Taylor-Joy replacing Charlize Theron in the title role. The only …

  1. I finally got around to watching this movie. I was very disappointed because I had fairly high expectations (been a Mad Max fan for decades). The movie appeared to be a bunch of random stuff happening with characters being introduced and not developed (Biker leader with horned helmet that allied with Dementus to capture Gastown) to just plot points that happened with no explanation like Praetorian Jack randomly assigning Furiosa to the escort car and not driving the War Rig per usual–pretty convenient to avoid the Bullet Farm ambush. But if he sensed an ambush why go at all? If he didn't sense the ambush, why reassign Furiosa? Or girl Furiosa cutting her hair, making a wig, and then using the wig to escape the Mother's room when she probably could have snuck out without all the foolishness.
Chris Hemsworth's nose make-up affected he voice enough that I couldn't understand him about 1/2 the time. Most decision made by main characters made no sense other than script needed plot to happen (Furiosa's mom's last stand was cliche'd and foolish) If the dog are tracking you, you motorcycle is a lot faster than a sniffing dog. It would have made more sense to stop and bandage the wound to stop the blood trail and then "turn left." Finally, love Chris Hemsworth but Dementus seemed like kind of a bumbling doofus. Got his butt kicked at the Citadel, lost Gas Town through mismanagement and SOMEHOW seized control of the Bullet farm, and he never seemed to realize Furiosa was the one causing him grief. Like I earlier stated I couldn't always understand what he was saying. I assume he equated Furiosa with the little girl at the end. The tree death scene was weird. I watched it with my son who played the Mad Max Video game so it was nice seeing Chumbucket and I like the references to "Humongous" for the Road Warrior. The Max cameo standing on the hill, however, seemed forced. My high expectations let me down. Like when I watched The Predator.

  2. has anyone ever asked how they got the oil out of the ground and refined into gasoline ….these are idiots and deranged crazies……………the entire premise is worse than most superhoreo movies ….on the level or bad bad indioe jones and horrible wopke star wars .

  3. To be fair, I tried to go the movies to watch it, and they gave the movie very shitty times, rooms and very short time. And considering how ridicolously expensive it is, I decided to not bother and I watched it on streaming.

I hope it picked up there. The performance of the actress was very moving. I agree the tolerance to pain was a bit off-putting. Like, even if she tried to stay stoic, she should have gone pale, or sweated. Something to show ehr arm was ripped up.

But the way she displayed her emotional anguish was very moving. She didn't do anything crazy. It was just raw compassion, and it makes you care so much about the character.

  4. I mean it does look great visually but it’s just another movie pushing the male character away (Max) . So I’ll probably won’t watch it anytime soon . I remember years ago there was suppose to be another Mad Max movie and then we got this😐

  5. I finally got around to watching this movie. I avoided it because I thought it was going to be another girl power crapathon where they replace our iconic characters that we love so much with strong empowered gill boss nonsense. I was wrong. ATJ was helpless and vulnerable at times throughout the film. This isn't a girl power feminist message. It was a fun movie with fun characters that didn't need to put men down to lift women up. Both women and men were shown to be good and evil. Good job Furiosa. I'm sorry you failed at the box office.

  6. i don't mind a feminist film as long as it's well done. and both Charlize and Anya TJ were badass. that said, Furiosa is full of gaping plot holes and suffers from a bloated runtime. it didn't help that the film preceding it is fat-free and has non-stop great action on top of great side characters like Nux, whose demise was actually freaking glorious for a war boy. George Miller simply set himself and his viewers a bar that he did not meet.

  7. Well, that wall of apathy is self-built. How about these writers, directors, and actors just STFU about how we’re all shit people, while they go on portraying people like us on screen? Do these actors think they’re the badasses? No, that’d be us. We’re the epic ones; they’re the pretenders. Who’s fighting the wars? Who’s fixing the rigs and all the other machinery? The movie’s fine, but I get why the audience stopped showing up—it’s because the vendor thinks the audience are a bunch of morons.

  8. movie was great. too bad hollywood made too many sexisat racist movies that there was an assumption for many that this might be the case too…or the idiots just angry about the title.

  9. this movie would've been great if it was it's own movie, not a prequel to one of the best movies. both me and my fiance were extremely frustrated with how it seemed like all of furiosa's motivation is gone. she has no reason to save the wives, immortan joe gives her a good life and she has rank and privilege so she realistically couldn't care less about his women if it meant losing her life. she didn't know the women AT ALL throughout the movie.

ETA: WE ALSO DIDN'T NEED TO KNOW WHY OR HOW SHE LOST HER ARM! It takes away from the idea of disability awareness and the subtle fact that we don't need to know why or how people have their disabilities.

  10. did this film just look and feel… off? in the same way that alien covenant did. i rewatched fury road to make sure i wasnt going crazy, and it confirmed my suspicions. alien covenant is a visual spectacle, but something about it looks superficial. ive never felt such a similar feeling from 2 completely different films.

  11. I wanted to watch the movie in cinema, but it didn't work out then, and I am kinda glad about it.

I hated the really bad 3D Animation as well as the story working out only because of accidents and random events clicking together like puzzle pieces.

The exploding cars were fun though as well as the excentricity of the world.

  12. The over use of CGI just killed it for me, i mean just the simple scenes were they driving fast on the dunes looked so fake. Certain scenes didnt have any real conclusions, like when she cuts her hair and escapes as a child and no one even flinches ,i expected immortan joe to lose his shit and go on a full on man hunt for her….but nope , she just grows up and we never have mention of the issue again.

  13. I respectfully disagree with you on this one. While there are some good points raised about issues with this movie, a Furiosa prequel was exactly what I wanted after the Fury Road. She was the star in that film with a lot of questions about her origins, so it made perfect sense to make this film. The story and characters were excellent, although I found some of the more violent scenes a bit over the top and it probably had a more limited budget, hence the influx of cgi. Hemsworth was brilliant as the villain, reminiscent of Leger's Joker. All said, while not perfect, I really enjoyed this movie and it was a good add to the franchise.
