Warning shots are a felony because if it hits the ground, it can ricochet and hurt someone. If you shoot in the air, it will come down and could hurt someone. If you shoot past them, it could hurt someone. You aim at your target and ONLY your target when you fire.

BTW the only warning shots you should risk is the opening shot on the first target. Anything else only alerts anybody else you're exactly where you are, and you wish to do them harm so they should consider doing something to prevent it. With the only thing resulting from the warning is your job is now exponentially worse.
They basically sent in this spaghetti sandwich crew to test the security and response times of police for someone more serious and prepared. This crew is only organized for empty office smash and grab thrill scores. They're only able to get cars if they have access to the keys and security fobs, only can do it when closed, and can't do anything to sanitize the cars so if they can manage to unfuk themselves, they can only flip them for pennies. If they were able to make plans and had fences then the cars would be vin swaped, new titles worked up and on their ways across the ocean.
These thieves have single digit IQ.
They just wrecked everything and created a net loss for everyone.
